Family Tree

Family Tree depicts a family of American Raccoons. The Native American name for racoon is "arakunem" which means one who scratches with his hands.

This family has adopted this tree for its own. The raccoon ranges over the entire United States. The raccoons of the northern states grow larger and have litters from four to six offspring. Their southern cousins are smaller, and have litters of two to four.

Female raccoons are entirely responsible for raising the young. In our Family Tree, the male has stopped by to visit his family.
