Rivers Return

Rivers Return features a Pacific Chinook Salmon that is returning to the river and tributary where she was spawned three years earlier in a redd, or nest, on the river bottom. In her first year of life, she spent her days as a smolt in this river before traveling down stream into the ocean.

While in the fertile growth environment of the great Pacific Ocean, she grew rapidly from smolt to an adult salmon. Unlike this modestly sized female, many salmon can reach weights approaching one hundred pounds. The Pacific Chinook Salmon ranges from the rivers of the south central coast of California up through Alaska.

Rivers Return finds this salmon on the eve of her journey back to her birthplace where she will, much like her mother, continue the legacy of the beautiful Pacific Chinook Salmon by spawning before completing the cycle of life.
